History of Midway Christian School
In 1993 the Midway Baptist Church, Wichita, Kansas, agreed to open Midway Christian School for training young people academically and in the principles of God's Word in an environment void of secular humanism. In August, 1993, Midway Christian School began its first year of operation.
Midway Christian School, hereafter known as MCS, uses the Accelerated Christian Education curriculum. This curriculum is competency-based. Each student is given an individual educational prescription and progresses at his or her appropriate rate of learning. This enables us to meet the educational needs of students with varying abilities. Students do not move on to the next level until they have mastered the material at the assigned level. Students are tested each year with the California Achievement Test.
Grade Placement
A child who transfers from any school will not automatically be placed in the same or next grade. Progress through school depends upon what has been learned (the student's level of achievement). Diagnostic testing will be used to determine placement in the appropriate grade level for ech child. The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) found in 1994 that only 28 percent of fourth graders were reading at a proficient level (4th grade level) and in 1992 their testing showed that only 21 percent of eighth graders were proficient at math. We expect that each child will be proficient at his/her grade level in all subjects before moving on to the next grade level.
