Children
First: CEO Kansas
2006-2007
SCHOOL YEAR
(This
application becomes invalid after March 31, 2006)
Send
your child to the school of your choice.
Who is eligible?
In
order to be eligible for a Children First: CEO Kansas scholarship, the student
must be:
·
a resident of
·
entering grades 1 through 12;
·
fall within the Income Eligibility Guidelines printed on Page 2;
·
and not have been enrolled in a private or parochial school
for grades 1-12 in the 2005-2006 school year.
What are the rules?
Families
of students who receive scholarships will receive financial aid of 15%, 40%,
65% or 75% (up to a maximum of $1,500, whichever is less) of the annual
tuition charges of attending private, parochial or church-based, or public
school provided:
·
the student remains in good standing with the school;
·
the family pays their portion of tuition;
·
the school verifies enrollment and continued attendance & provides
grade/progress information to Children First: CEO Kansas.
Scholarship payments will be issued in four equal installments after the end of each quarter & upon receipt of grade cards, progress reports, standardized test scores and attendance & enrollment verification from receiving schools.
How are the scholarships awarded?
Scholarships will be awarded by lottery drawing to
students whose applications with supporting documents are received on or before
August 12, 2006.
If parents have difficulty filling out applications, they may call the numbers on Page 2 for help.
How much is a scholarship?
Depending upon family income (see Income Eligibility Guidelines, Page 2), the value of the scholarship will be 15%, 40%, 65% or 75% — up to a maximum of $1,500 (whichever is less) — of the annual tuition costs. Scholarships do not include registration fees, costs for books, uniforms, etc.
What about siblings?
For the 2006-2007 school year, scholarships will only be awarded to those drawn in the lottery. In the future, we hope to have enough funds to allow us to award scholarships to siblings of scholarship recipients.
Why not pay the whole tuition?
A CEO Kansas scholarship is a helping hand, not a hand out. We believe that people appreciate something more when they must sacrifice to obtain it. Children First: CEO Kansas seeks to honor and support parents who are sacrificing to give their children greater educational opportunity.
What about transportation?
As with most parents who choose educational alternatives, scholarship parents must arrange daily transportation by driving their child to school or sharing rides with other school families.
Do certain types of private schools receive preferential treatment?
No. Our program is based on a simple
concept: Give parents the opportunity to
choose the school they believe is best for their child.
Is the scholarship good at a public school?
Yes, if the public school agrees to accept tuition payments from both Children First: CEO Kansas and the parent. However, your child cannot already be a student at the public school at which you choose to use your scholarship.
Is the scholarship just for public school students?
Our goal is to reach as many families as possible who have never felt they had the option of choosing their child’s school. Because of the small number of scholarships available for the 2006-2007 school year, 100% of this year’s scholarships will be awarded to students currently attending public schools. In the future, we reserve the option to award scholarships to those already attending non-public schools.
What happens next year?
This is not a one-year program. Scholarships may be renewed for up to three years for students who remain in good standing with their schools and who continue to meet eligibility requirements if funding is available for that purpose. Scholarships are not transferable from one child to another sibling.
So how do I apply?
Families need to complete a
written application and return it along with supporting documentation by the
August 12, 2006 deadline. Applications may be picked up at various locations
around
